The Sacred Rhythm of Time: Honoring Nature, Community, and the Child

As a Montessorian, honoring and respecting the child is one of the most essential components of Montessori education. Yet, for our children to truly thrive in community, a deeper conversation must be had—one that extends beyond individual respect to include the honoring and respect of time and timing.

We know that nothing in nature rushes, yet everything is accomplished. But there is a deeper truth within this wisdom that we often overlook: nothing in nature rushes because everything is done on time and in a timely manner. Nature is a respecter of time. As we guide our children and aid in their character development, we must instill within them this same reverence for time. Time is truly of the essence—it is one of the only things we cannot get back.
